No-one seems tto know just how many CCTV cameras we have in the UK, but without question we are the most 'watched-over' nation on earth - Yet we profess to be a Democracy!
Most of the figures below are from a year or two ago and I hope you will agree that they are quite staggering. The situation today is undoubtedly even worse.
1. Britain has one CCTV camera for every 11 people, a security industry report disclosed. Privacy campaigners criticised the growth of the “surveillance state”
The British Security Industry Authority (BSIA) estimated there are up to 5.9 million closed-circuit television cameras in the country. Read that article here
2. London has one of the highest number of CCTV cameras of any city in the world. London's 33 councils operate approximately 7,000 public CCTV cameras. By comparison, Paris has only 326 equivalent cameras. Read that article here
To give you some idea of what these government cameras are capable of, consider what was available to Vancouver Police during a riot in 2011 - You will be amazed - and today's cameras will be even better! Just zoom in on any face shown in the footage here
